Celebration of learning
Dear parents and Caregivers,
Another busy term is planned. The children have settled into the expectations of the class and are well on track to thinking about the goals to be set for this term.
Dancing Like Stars
During Term 2 Room 9 children are participating in the Dancing Like the Stars programme. We will practise with an experienced tutor on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until week 10 when we will perform in the James Hay Theatre. There will be more information to follow regarding this.
Ukelele Lessons
Room 9 children are timetabled to attend ukelele lessons with Ali during Term 2. This involves us learning to play the instrument in a weekly session as a class.
Cross Country
We are currently preparing for our school cross country on 4th May. You are most welcome to join us during the event.
My Greatest Feat
We are currently preparing for our school cross country on 4th May. You are most welcome to join us during the event.
My Greatest Feat
MY GREATEST FEAT 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa is a national pedometer programme that aims to see more than 100,000 Kiwi kids get active, inspired, learning and having fun, as they count their steps and make a simulated online journey through South Africa, escorting the All Whites all the way onto the pitch for their FIFA World Cup kick-off. Every child who registers receives their own FREE pedometer (RRP $10). One child will win the chance to go to South Africa and walk the All Whites onto the pitch for their kick-off game at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Please return the form as soon as possible for your child to participate in this programme.
Profile Books
This term profile books are being sent home to share with you. If you haven’t seen it – ask your child. Please remember to take the time to celebrate your child’s learning and complete the parents’ page. This just needs to be a simple comment to your child about their progress so far. If there is anything in the book that needs more clarification please ask me, I am more than happy to discuss this with you.
During Week 3 you will once again be given the opportunity to attend a goal setting session with your child during our Learning Conversations.
Library
Our library day is now Thursday. Our class still has a few outstanding overdue books from last term, please look for these books and send them back as soon as possible.
Room 9 Blog
you will find entries about our classroom learning. So far we have information about our softball session, the writing programme and we are in the process of adding a camp entry.
Uniforms
Thank you to those of you who ensure their child is in the correct uniform. As the days get colder it is important to ensure your child is warm. A lot of people put layers under the uniform and this is fine as long as it goes with the uniform – so no bright pink or yellow clothes that can be seen please.
Stationery
There are still a number of children who have not got a pencil, a red pen or ruler. Please check with your child if they need these items, as it can be quite frustrating when there is nothing to do their work with.
Parent help
I am currently in search of adult help to assist with our writing session. Please let me know if you, or an adult you
know, are able to help at school during this time. Thanks to those who are already helping with the Frogs programme as without you I feel the children wouldn’t have progressed so quickly.
Assembly
Please remember you are most welcome at our weekly assembly on Friday at 11am. During this time we celebrate the children’s learning.
Homework
We have made a good start to the term with the majority of children completing their homework and remembering to bring it back to school. Thank you to those of you who support their child in the completion of this. It is an important part of the reinforcement in learning that is happening at school.
I have also stated that all reading logs will be checked on Friday to ensure children are reading regularly at home. I know a lot of children already have this routine well established. Please remember to discuss the story with your child as this also improves their understanding.
Have a great term.
Regards
Katy Craib
